There were 11 games played last night in the NHL.  Here is how they ended:

Three games ended in Shutouts:
The New Jersey Devils beat the New York Rangers with the only goal being scored by David Clarkson with 8:14 gone in the 1st.  New York still sits 1st in the eastern conference with 71 points while New Jersey is 4th with 65 points.
The New York Islanders beat the Philadelphia Flyers 1-0.  Funny enough the NY Islanders actually scored twice.  This game went to a shootout and the Islander's Frans Nielsen and John Tavares both scored and both Philly shooters were denied.  The Islanders may get the 2 points but they are 11th over all 3 spots out of a play off spot with 52 points total, while Philly with their 1 point last night is 3rd in the east with 67 points.
The 3rd shutout of the night had a bit more scoring.  The Washington Capitals beat the Florida Panthers 4-0.  Alex Ovechkin scored 2 of the goals while Mathieu Perreault and Jason Chimera each got one.  Washington is 7rd in the east with 60 points and Florida is 8th with 59 points.

The three games ending in a 3-1 were:
The Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Minnesota Wild 3-1.  Columbus's David Savard scored 1st and then Antoine Vermette scored in the 2nd and Jeff Carter scored in the 3rd.  Minnesota's lone goal came from Nate Prosser in the 1st.  Minnesota is still in 8th spot in the western conference and Columbus is not so hot sitting 15th and last place in the west and overall league wide with just 36 points.
The St. Louis Blues beat the Ottawa Senators 3-1.  Chris Porter scored once, David Perron scored twice and Ottawa's only goal came from team Captain Daniel Alfredsson.  St. Louis is 3rd in the west but 2nd in their division with 69 points and Ottawa is 8th in the east with 61 points.
The final 3-1 final was between the Los Angeles Kings and the Tampa Bay Lightning.  L A took this one with  Anze Kpoitar, Kyle Clifford, and Dustin Penner scoring for the Kings and league goal leader Steven Stamkos scored the goal for Tampa Bay to get them on the board.  Stamkos now has 35 goals this season.  Tampa is still four spots out of a play off spot with 51 points and 12th in the east while, Los Angeles has flown up the charts in recent months and is 7th in the west with 62 points.

Besides the New York Islanders who went to a shootout to end a scoreless game, 2 other teams went to the shootout.
The Montreal Canadians beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2.  No scoring in the 1st period, the teams rotated goals after Montreal scored in the 2nd period.  OT proved pointless but the shootout was nuts!  All together 16 shooters shot.  Only 5 scored and the winning goal came from 15th in line, Montreal's Tomas Plekanec.  WOW!  Montreal is only 13th in the east with 51 points but Pittsburgh is 5th with 65 points.
The Vancouver Canucks beat the Nashville Predators 4-3.  Vancouver's Ryan Kesler scored 1st and picked up his 17th goal of the season.  Two minutes later Nashville's Colin Wilson scored to tie it up.  With under 2 minutes left in the 1st period Vancouver call up Byron Bitz scored, assisted by Henrik Sedin and Kevin Bieksa.  It was Bitz's 1st goal in nearly 2 years.  Not since March 20th 2010 has a Bitz shot seen the back of the net.  To top it off 23 seconds later Daniel Sedin scored assisted by Byron Bitz and Henrik Sedin.  Can we say "chemistry?"  Nashville didn't take that sitting down and scored twice in the 2nd period by Sergei Kostitsyn and Mike Fisher. A scoreless 3rd and OT meant S/O.  Twelve shooters went total and it was Alex Edler's goal that sealed the deal.  Canuck Alex Burrows also scored and Predator David Legwand.  Vancouver is 2nd in the west with 71 points while Nashville is not far behind at 4th with 69 points.

The Phoenix Coyotes beat the Dallas Stars 4-1.  All Star Keith Yandle opened the scoring for Phoenix and former Canuck Raffi Torres also scored.  Phoenix is now on a 3 game winning streak and 9th in the west, tied with Minnesota who also has 58 points, but both teams have 25 wins and Minnesota has played 2 less games.  Dallas is 11th with 56 points.
The Colorado Avalanche beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2.  Chicago struck first with a goal 31 seconds into the 2nd by Brent Seabrook after a scoreless 1st period.  Colorado then scored 2 by Peter Mueller and David Jones, but Patrick Sharp tied it up.  These 4 goals were scored in the span of 5 minutes and 43 seconds.  In the 3rd Colorado scored 3 goals by Gabriel Landeskog, David Jones again, and Kyle Quincey.  After this Chicago is on a 3 game losing streak but is still 5th in the west with 65 points.  Colorado is 10th with 57 points.
Finally, the Winnipeg Jets beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1.  Toronto hot shot Phil Kessel scored 1st for the Leafs assisted by buddies Joffery Lupul and Tyler Bozak.  Winnipeg's Chris Thorburn and Bryan Little each scored and that was that.  Toronto is still in playoff running sitting 7th in the east with 62 points while Winnipeg is 10 with 56 points.

Sam Gagner might not quiet be off the high from 11 consecutive points on 11 goals.  But he did what only a few have done, he broke one of Wayne Gretzky's records.  Gagner tied Gretzky and Paul Coffey for Edmonton's franchise record of 8 points in a sinlge game but Darryl Sittler scored 10 points in a game for Toronto in the 70s.  Sittler holds the record for most points in a single game but Gretzky held a record for Edmonton of most consecutive points with 10.  While with Gagner's 3 point night after his 8 point night he has 11 points breaking the Gretzky record.  WOW!

There are only 4 game being played tonight:
Boston Bruins vs Buffalo Sabers at 4:30pm
Edmonton Oilers vs the Detroit Red Wings at 4:30pm
Carolina Hurricane vs the Anaheim Ducks at 7:00pm
and the Calgary Flames vs the San Jose Sharks at 7:00pm
