Hello Hockey Fans!  Welcome back to the wonderful world of NHL hockey!  How is everyone?  I know I took a break over the summer but I am back and ready to go.

With the Canuck rookies in Penticton and veteran players from every team skating informal stakes around the continent it is only a matter of time till the 2013-14 puck drop October 1st.

Today as usual I headed out to UBC to see what I would see.  Lisa Bonang, a friend of mine and former member of the UBC Thunderbirds Women's hockey team was working in the office at the Varsity gym.  I popped into say hi and it was possibly the best gym session I have ever had.  The gym and I aren't great friends.  I prefer running outside or a dance class but today was different.  Lisa and I were catching up and right next to me Jason Garrison, Alex Edler, Alex Burrows, Jannik Hansen, Dan Hamhuis and Daniel and Henrik Sedin were all doing "the plank position" in between breaks from sit ups and other strength training exercises.  A women's dream come true.  Good Lookin, athletic men, working out.  I was not complaining, I just wish they had their shirts off.

Lisa and I wrapped up our conservation (she was working after all) and I continued to wonder around the rink.  I crossed paths with Dale Weise, Tom Sestito, Chris Tanev and Jordan Schroeder all looking very handsome in street clothes chatting to each other.  A couple minutes later I exchanged hellos with a sweaty David Booth.  Although I didn't see any players skating on the ice they were definitely taking their off ice work outs very seriously.

Of course I spotted Vancouver Canuck fans, carrying their jerseys, sticks and pictures in an effort to get their favourite player's autograph.  You can tell they can't wait for the season to begin!

Check back and I will continue to share my hockey stories with you.  Below please enjoy my recipe for a delicious refreshing drink!  Enjoy

Fresh delicious ingredients are guaranteed to make a wonderful drink.

Strawberry Basil Lime Water
The perfect drink while watching a hockey game (especially when you have to get up early and work the next morning!)
Ingredients:
7 strawberries medium to large in size washed & hulled
1 lime cut into 4 or 5 pieces depending on size
5-7 basil leafs depending on size and personal preference
6 cups water
Directions:
1) Place strawberries in juice jug
2) Add 3 cups water
3) Add lime and basil and remaining water
4) Let the water sit for at least an hour.  The flavours will blend beautifully the longer you leave it.
I prefer to let the water steep at room temperature but you can also put it in the fridge.  The longer you let the water steep the more flavour it will develop.  It will last in the fridges for 3 days, plenty of time to enjoy a few hockey games!

Wash and hull the strawberries before adding them to your juice jug.

I add a little water before I toss in the lime and basil. Give the strawberries a head start on the way to flavour town.

If you don't have lime you can substitute lemon. But I do prefer lime in this water.

If you feel like you need to add more basil, lime or strawberries feel free to modify. Extra basil adds a wonderful fresh taste.

Pour yourself a glass and enjoy!
