Canucks and Kings, Flyers and PENS, Wings and Preds, need I say anything more? Playoff time has arrived!
Both teams are ready for this!
Tonight is the night. Playoffs start. There are 3 games being played between the 8 different series. The Vancouver Canucks are playing the Los Angeles Kings in the 1st of a possible 7 meetings. Remember these 2 teams met up in the playoffs in the 1st round 2 years ago. Vancouver won in 6 games. With Vancouver finishing on top of the leader board for a 2nd straight year and winning the Presidents Trophy is a threat to any team but Los Angeles has gone on an amazing run since Darryl Sutter took over as head coach. This will be an interesting match up. If you want to hear about the Los Angeles Kings check out episode 8 of Hockey Talk with Courtney. I was fortunate enough to have had an interview with former head coach Terry Murray and he talks about the Kings! Game time 7:30.
The Hunger Games of Hockey!
It what may turn out to be the most physical series and no doubt has a good chance of going to game 7, the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins square off tonight. These teams simply put "don't like each other" both teams admit it. Besides the fact that they are both two of the most highly skilled teams in the league it will be a battle of Crosby and Malkin vs Hartnell and Simmonds. This is one of the most anticipated match ups in the 1st round. It is also the battle of Pennsylvania! Sure to be a crowd pleaser. Puck drops at 4:30pm
Wings and Preds battling it out!
The Central Division is by far the most dominating division in the Western Conference. Four of a possible five teams are in the 8 teams that made the playoffs in the west. The hockey gods have the Detroit Red Wings and the Nashville Predators meeting in the 1st round. The interesting dynamic here is that Detroit has made the playoffs for 21 consecutive years now. They won the Stanley Cup in 2008 and the last 2 years were eliminated after the 2nd round. Nashville on the other hand advanced to the 2nd round of the playoffs last year for the first time in franchise history. They lost to the Canucks in 6 games but still put up an amazing fight. These two teams have nothing but complete passion and coming from opposite sides of the playoff spectrum it will make for interesting chemistry on the ice. Game time 5:00pm ENJOY X
