The Vancouver Canucks are starting a 6 game road trip nicely in Calgary.  The Canucks beat the Flames 5-1.  Vancouver's scoring leader Chris Higgins opened up the scoring in the 1st, 8 minutes into the game and by the end of the 1st period it was 3-0.  Burrows sat down to pop his goal in and Daniel Sedin scored the 3rd.  By the end of the 2nd period Cody Hodgson got the score board to 4-0 and Alex Edler notched his 3rd goal to make it 5-0.  It was a great game to watch.  Calgary stayed in it.  They never gave, they just couldn't get one past Loungo.  Personally my favourite part of watching this game was the power plays.  Total 13 penalties were handed out.  The Canucks had a few chances at 5 on 3 (meaning they had a 2 man advantage on the ice with two Calgary players in the penalty box).  What I learn most in this circumstance is puck handling and passing.  With only 8 players on the ice it really opens it up.  3 players trying to cover 5 leaves lots of room for the Canucks to play around.  They will pass back and forth and wait for the perfect chance to score.  As a new comer to hockey it also makes it easier to follow the puck.  It was almost a shut out for Lou but Calgary's #40 Tanguay snuck one in with 31 seconds left in the 3rd.  All in all, great game.  Watch the Canucks play the Minnesota Wild thursday at 5:00pm.

The Washington Capitals on the other hand didn't get off to the best road game start.  The were on a 7 game win streak but that was snapped by the Edmonton Oilers and then Vancouver went on to make it a lose streak with their vistory of 7-4 last saturday.  It true Capitals fashion they found a way to win and win they did.  Capitals beat the Anaheim Ducks tuesday night with a come back.  Half way through the 2nd period Anaheim had a 3-0 lead.  Washington came back to make it 3-2 by the end of the 2nd.  Team Canada and Anaheim player Corey Perry made it 4-2 in the 3rd but Washington oh Washington you never give you do you?  Troy Brouwer made it 4-3 and with less then a minute left in the 3rd period Capitals Forward Nicklas Backstrom went on to make it a 4-4 tie pushing to game into overtime.  What happened next?  Nicklas Backstrom ended the game in sudden death overtime scoring the game winning goal.  Capitals win, Anaheim not so much.

The Boston Bruins beat the Ottawa Senators last night.  But Ottawa gave the current Stanley Cup champs a run for their money.  It was a back and forth game with Ottawa tying the game up with 14 minutes left in the 3rd.  Boston went on to score twice in about 30 seconds to finish the game at 5-3.  After this finish Boston ended a 3 game losing streak and Ottawa had their 6 game winning streak snapped.  Ottawa did very well though.  They gave Boston a real hard time and Ottawa is not one of the stronger teams in the NHL.  They finished near the bottom last year in standings.  Go Teams!
