Cory Schneider was in net, with Luongo as back up. The game was 0-0 at the end of the 1st period but that all change 5:01 in the second period. Sami Salo sniped one right past Phoenix Coyote goalie MIke Smith making it 1-0. Then Ryan Kesler unassisted scored 1 minute 32 seconds later, 2-0. That was Kesler's second goal in 2 games. An amazing 40 seconds later David Booth scored his 3rd of the season, 3-0 in 2 minutes and 12 seconds. That was it for the 2nd period.
Then into the 3rd period fan favourite Maxim LaPierre unassisted potted a beautiful spin-o-rama that was the play of the night. And finally after a night like that why not top it off 5-0 with a goal from Alex Burrows! Cutie Cody Hodgson picked up that assist.
All in all it was a great game. That makes the 1st 3 game win streak for the Canucks all season. Cory Schneider's 1st ever back to back shut out and the first the Canucks have posted back to back shut outs since April 2009 I believe. The Canucks play the San Jose Sharks tonight. This will be a good game because it is the 1st time these 2 teams have met up in the regular season after Vancouver knocked them out of the play off run in game 5 last year, in double over time. Go Canucks! Check out the LaPierre spin-o-rama beauty in "if you need a visual"
The Pittsburgh Penguins took home an impressive win last night. They beat the Ottawa Senators 6-3. Ottawa did open up the scoring 1:19 into the 1st but that was it for a while. By the time the 1st period was 1/2 over Pittsburgh had made it 4-1. Crosby himself had gotten 3 assists alone on those 4 goals. In the 2nd and 3rd periods the teams rotated goals for a final 6-3 final. Interesting stat about this game every goal was scored on even strengh except 1 by Pittsburgh. I want to point out that this makes 3 games played for Crosby and 7 points. Two goals and 5 assists. That puts him behind the scoring leader Phil Kessel of the Toronto Maple Leafs by 23 points only. Kessel has 16 goals, 14 assists for 30 points in 23 games played. Does that start to show how amazing Sidney Crosby is at hockey and how much excitement and fun he brings to the game.
The Oilers finally ended a 17 game losing streak against the Minnesota Wild last night. The Oilers hadn't won in the Xcel Energy center since January 16th 2007. The Oilers ended it in style as well. Opening up the scoring Eberle got an assist on the 1st goal and Nugent-Hopkins scored the second goal. Minnesota came back to even up the game 2-2 half way through the 2nd period but that wasn't it for the Oilers or the KIDS shall I say? Cutie Taylor Hall made it 3-2 and then Hall assisted the Horcoff goal to make it 4-2. But why end it there? Don't have to! Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored with just under 2 minutes left in the 3rd assisted by Eberle and Smyth. Final 5-2 Oilers. I want to point out the the KIDS Hall, Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins registered a point on every Oilers goal. Amazing!
