The Pittsburgh Penguins shut the door on the New York Rangers 2-0. League leader in points Evgeni Malkin scored his 33rd goal and got his 40th assist. Marc Andre-Fleury made 27 saves and recorded his 22nd shutout of his career. Malkin now has 73 points! The Rangers are still first in the east with 81 points while the Penguins are 6th with 73 points.
The Dallas Stars shut out the Montreal Canadiens 3-0. Montreal is 14th in the east with 58 points and Dallas is fighting for a playoff spot sitting 10th in the west with 64 points. Only 2 points behind 8th place Los Angeles. Jamie Benn was not playing for the Stars, he is still recovering from a cut to his leg by a skate from a game last week.
The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2. League leader in goals Steven Stamkos scored 2 goals for Tampa in the 1st period for a 2-0 lead. Stamkos has scored 42 goals this season! Stamkos also assisted the 3rd Tampa goal in the 2nd period for a 3 point night. Anaheim's Saku Koivu and cutie Bobby Ryan got their team on the score board but it wasn't enough. After this ending both teams have 60 points but Tampa is 11th in the east and Anaheim is 13th in the west.
Chicago beat Detroit 2-1. Chicago in now on a 4 game win streak after losing 9 games in a row. Detroit is #1 in the league with 84 points. They return home Thursday to take on the Vancouver Canucks. If Detroit wins it will be their 24th straight win at home but here is the twist, Vancouver is the strongest team in the league when on the road! You have the strongest home team playing at home and strongest road team playing on the road and the 1st and 2nd place teams in the league matching up. Wait for the fireworks.
The Phoenix Coyotes beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-4 in a shootout. Los Angeles had a 3 goal lead at the end of the 1st period. By the end of the 3rd period Shane Doan and Radim Vrbata had each scored twice for Phoenix and Justin Brown got the 4th goal for LA. Phoenix won in the 3rd round of the shootout. Phoenix is 7th with 69 points and LA is 8th with 66 points.
The Buffalo Sabres beat the New York Islanders 2-1. Buffalo has 59 points for 12th in the east and the Islanders are 13th with 58 points.
The Washington Capitals play the Ottawa Senators at 4:00pm
The Boston Bruins play the St. Louis Blue at 5:00pm
