It was quite the night in the NHL and the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs are taking off and some unusual turns?!

#8 Dainius Zubrus scores!
The New Jersey Devils beat the Florida Panthers 3-2.  The Panthers took a 3 goal lead in just over 8 minutes in the 1st period with goals by Patrik Elias, Dainius Zubrus and Ryan Carter.  Dainius assited the Elias goal, netminder Martin Brodeur assisted the Zubrus goal and Carter's goal was unassisted.
Florida answered back with 2 goals in the 2nd period by Sean Bergenheim and Kris Versteeg.  Former Canuck Mikael Samuelsson assisted both Florida goals.  This was the 1st meeting between these 2 teams and the last time Florida made it to the playoffs in 2000 they actually played New Jersey in the 1st round and were swept (meaning New Jersey won the first 4 games to eliminate Florida in the shortest amount of time possible).  This game had your classic penalties: tripping, slashing, hooking one 4 minute double minor went to Shawn Matthias for a high stick.  Florida goalie Jose Theodore stopped 35 of 38 shots while Martin Brodeur stopped 24 of 26.  Perhaps one of the most entertaining parts of the game is from Scottie Upshall.  Upshall tried to hit Stephen Gionta and instead missed Gionta and went into his own bench.  As I heard one commentator say "and that's one way for a line change, I don't think counts as a hit?"  Congrats to Martin Brodeur who got his 100th career postseason win!  Brodeur is the 2nd goalie ever to hit 100 wins in the postseason but he still has a bit to go if he wants to catch up to all time leader Patrick Roy who has 151 post season wins!  You can check out the Scottie Upshall attempt to hit below!  New Jersey leads the series 1-0.

Claude Giroux with a 6 point game!
In the bloodbath that is the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers the Flyers again came out on top last night with a 8-5 victory.  We sometimes see games with goal scoring this high in the regular season but it very rarely happens in the playoffs.  After a bad loss for the PENS in the 1st game (they were up 3 nothing to end the 1st period and Philly came back to score the winner in OT) it was going to be an intense game.  It started off with yet again Sid the Kid opening up scoring making it 1-0 PENS 15 seconds into the 1st period.  I am going to just lay this one out: and keep in mind PENS goalie Marc-Andre Fluery stopped 23 of 30 shots and Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 23 of 28 shots.

Goal #1 Sidney Crosby assisted by Steve Sullivan and Pascal Dupuis (1-0 PENS)
Goal #2 Chris Kunitz assisted by James Neal and Evgeni Malkin (2-0 PENS) on the power play
Goal #3 Maxime Talbot assisted by Claude Giroux (2-1 PENS) scored shorthanded
Goal #4 Paul Martin assisted by Sidney Crosby and Pascal Dupuis (3-1 PENS)
Goal #5 Claude Giroux assisted by Jakub Voracek and Kimmo Timonen (3-2 PENS) on the power play
Goal #6 Claude Giroux assisted by Maxime Talbot (3-3 tie game) scored shorthanded
Goal #7 Chris Kunitz assisted by James Neal and Evgeni Malkin (4-3 PENS) on the power play
Goal #8 Sean Couturier assisted by Braydon Coburn and Nicklas Grossman (4-4 tie game)
Goal #9 Tyler Kennedy assisted by Matt Cooke and Jordan Stall (5-4 PENS)
Goal # 10 Sean Couturier unassisted (5-5 tie game)
Goal #11 Jaromir Jagr assisted by Pavel Kubina and Claude Giroux (6-5 Philly)
Goal #12 Sean Couturier assisted by Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek (7-5 Philly)
Goal #13 Claude Giroux assisted by Sean Couturier (8-5 Philly)
As I heard another commentator say in this game "someone change the batteries in the goal lights, it's unreal!"
In this game Sean Couturier scored his 1st NHL playoff goal and went on to score 2 more and record his 1st NHL playoff hat trick.  Claude Giroux also scored a hat trick with his 3rd goal being scored with 7 second left in the 3rd period but Giroux also recorded 3 assists for 6 points total and a new Philadelphia franchise record!  And the Flyers have never lost a playoff series when leading after 2!  They have a 17-0 record.  Flyers lead this series 2-0.  Check out Sidney Crosby's opening goal below and both Couturier and Giroux's Hat Tricks Below!

Johan Franzen scores the GWG!
In the 2nd meeting between the Nashville Predators and the Detroit Red Wings it was a heated game that ended in a 3-2 win for Detroit.  With just over a minute gone in the game former Canuck Todd Bertuzzi and BC boy Shea Weber dropped the gloves.  Bertuzzi was taking action against the Weber/Zetterberg incident in game 1.  In hockey, players don't forget anything.  You hurt someone or take a cheap shot, enforcers from the other team will come after you.  This fight was a good one.  It didn't last long but Bertuzzi and Weber are both big men.  Bertuzzi stands 6'3 and 229 pounds, Weber is 6'4 and 232.  An even match up in hockey fighting terms.  Detroit took an early 2-0 lead with goals by Ian White and Cory Emmerton to end the 1st period.  Nashville's Andrei Kostitsyn got his team within one in the 2nd period only to have Detroit's Johan Franzen score 56 second later and reestablish the 2 goal lead.  Shea Weber scored in the 3rd period but it wasn't enough.  The series is now tied 1-1 and the teams head to Joe Louis Arena for games 3 and 4.  Besides the 5 minute fighting majors both Bertuzzi and Weber got is wasn't that eventful in the penalty category.  And not a ton of shots on goal were taken either.  Nashville net minder Pekka Rinne stopped 14 of 17 and Detroit's Jimmy Howard stopped 24 of 26.  You can check out the Bertuzzi/Weber fight below!

Quick and Brown each had amazing games last night!
The Los Angeles Kings beat the Vancouver Canucks for the 2nd time and again with a final score of 4-2.  Dustin Brown stole the show with not 1 but 2 short handed goals.  The 1st coming with 9 seconds left in the 1st period.  Lou made the first save on the Kopitar shot but Dustin Brown grabbed the rebound with Lou covered by skaters, Chris Tanev attempted to play goalie but the puck got past him.  The 1st period ended 1-0.  Seventeen seconds into the 2nd period and Jannik Hansen scored to get the Canucks on the board, tie game 1-1.  Only to have Dustin Brown score his second shorthanded goal of the night.  The 2nd period ended 2-1. Jarret Stoll and Trevor Lewis both scored for Los Angeles in the 3rd and Samuel Pahlsson scored for the Canucks.  The Canucks stilll took 8 penalties in the game and Los Angeles 7.  Luongo stopped 22 of 26 shots and it wasn't that the Canucks weren't taking shots.  In game 1 they only registered 26 shots on goal but last night they took a whopping 48 shots on net and Quick stopped a whopping 46 of them.  The Canucks have to find a way to get past Quick.  Los Angeles leads the series 2-0 with games 3 and 4 in Los Angeles. You can check out both of Dustin Brown's short handed goals below.

Today's lineup includes:
Washington and Boston at 12:00 Boston leads the series 1-0

San Jose and St. Louis at 4:30 San Jose leads the series 1-0
