For this week's Fantasy Friday I was racking my brain with ideas. I was bouncing between the East and the West. There are so many hockey players to pick from. I needed to consult someone. I sent a text to my editor Ricky. Ricky thought about it for a bit and sent me some great ideas but then he said "Something on the Montreal Canadians for sure!"
Duh, why didn't I think of that. For as long as I have been looking at the team standings this year the Canadians have been at the top of the Eastern Conference! That comes after a disaster of a season last year. The stats for the team go like this: 27 games played, 18 wins, 5 losses and 4 OT losses. For a total of 40 points. Keep in mind ladies, Montreal is an Original 6 team with a huge following of extremely passionate hockey fans. Montreal is hockey heaven for a player. You are practically a god while playing there. Montreal is the oldest hockey team in the book, literally. It has been considered an Original 6 team since 1947, the team has been part of the NHL since 1917 BUT the Canadians had been playing since before then. The team's 1st year was in 1909 when they played 8 seasons in the NHA. Safe to say any player coming into the organization can be slightly overwhelmed by the history and pressure with living up to the expectations of being a "Hab".
This week's Fantasy Friday has stepped up to the task. I am talking about the one and only Carey Price! Carey Price has been the #1 netminder in Montreal for a few years now. Being drafted by the team, 5th overall in 2005, Price has been under the spotlight since the first time he donned the Habs jersey. Why do I keep referring to the team as the Habs? It is the nickname of the team. Habs is short for "Les Habitants" Habitants is the french term for Quebec farmers which I heard is a nickname derived from the fact that back in the day farmers use to be the hockey players.
Carey Price stands 6'3" and weights over 200 pounds. The native of Anahim Lake, B.C, Price catches with his left hand and wears the number 31!
In the nearly 300 games Price has played in a Habs jersey he has won 138, allowed 731 goals and faced a whopping 8,667 saves! For a save percentage that is .916! Got to love a good looking, talented goaltender!
Price has also been noticed on an international level as well. In 2007, Price won gold with Team Canada at the World Juniors. Price helped Canada win all 6 games they played, allowing only 7 goals total! Amazing! As for Price's All Star appearances it has happened a few times. In 2008 Price was on the Rookie Team, in 2009 Price was on the Young Stars Team and in 2011 and 2012 Price was on the NHL All Star teams! Entertaining the crowd, Price did not let down. He stopped goals on his head, backwards and even took a few shots on net! All while having a microphone attached to his helmet and giving fans at home a laugh with his running commentary.
And there you have it ladies, Fantasy Friday Carey Price! Below check out the video of Price making a save on the bench. Getting the "night off" the backup was in net. Price had to make a save when the puck left the ice and was going to hit a sports reporter standing at ice level. It gave me a laugh when I saw it!

I am so excited! Can't wait to share everything with you!
