There were only 2 games being played in the NHL last night.  Both ended with the same score, 3-2 final.  One in regulation, one  in OT.

Saber Jason Pominville
The Buffalo Sabres beat the Carolina Hurricane 3-2 on OT.  Carolina had the 1-0 lead to end the 1st with a goal by Jaroslav Spacek.  Buffalo came back to score two goals early in the 2nd period.  Tyler Myers scored 22 seconds into the period and Thomas Vanek scored 40 seconds later.  Carolina's Chad Larose tied it up to end the 2nd period 2-2.  A scoreless 3rd period forced OT.   With only 56 seconds gone in OT Sabre Jason Pominville ended it!  Sabres win 3-2.  Those are 2 points Buffalo needs.  Now Buffalo is tied with Washington with 70 points and sits 10th in the east, only 2 points behind 8th place Winnipeg.  Carolina is 14th in the east with 65 points.

Penguin Pascal Dusuis
The Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 in regulation.  Pittsburgh went into this game on a 6 game win streak and made it 7!  After no goals in the 1st period the 2nd period got a bit more interesting.  Toronto's Phil Kessel and Carl Gunnarsson scored to make it a 2-0 game.  Penguin Pascal Dupuis scored shortly after to make it 2-1.  Into the 3rd period Jordan Staal assisted by Brooks Orpik and Pascal Dupuis tied up the game 2-2.  Less then 3 minutes later Dupuis potted his 2nd goal of the night and that was the final 3-2.  The Penguins sit 4th in the east with 85 points.  Toronto has fallen to 12th place in the east with 67 points and 5 behind 8th place Winnipeg.

I know we have been hearing about Sidney Crosby for years now and the last 14 months have been "Is he coming back?  Is he coming back?"  Crosby did make a short appearance this season back in November and collected 12 points in 8 games.  Here is the thing about Sid for anyone new to the game of hockey and wondering why Crosby gets so much hype?  Sidney Crosby is arguably the best hockey player in the world!  The Great One Wayne Gretzky called Crosby "The Next One."  Like any young NHL player Crosby had to learn the rules but broke records and became the youngest permanent Captain in NHL history to lead his team to the Stanley Cup!  Crosby can also be respected for his understanding and poise he brings to being the most popular and talked about hockey player in the world.  Whether he is talking to the press after a game or practice, helping Tim Bits improve their hockey skills at summer camp or telling a young boy named Hunter who asked his Mom to change his name to "Sidney Crosby Hunter" that "Hunter is a great name and keep your name" while signing an autograph for him and showing him how to stick handle, Crosby handles his position with utter grace!  It would be a wonderful story if Crosby could come back and stay back.  The Pittsburgh Penguins would love it but don't ask the other 29 teams how they feel about going up against the best player!  Check out a few of Crosby's goals and in Episode 5 of Hockey Talk with Courtney, I give you a Fun Fact "Who is Sidney Crosby?"
