It was a rather slow Saturday in the NHL with only 8 games being played.  Seven games were played on friday evening.  Here is a quick recap of the games.
Picture
The Winnipeg Jets beat the Boston Bruins Friday night.  It was 2-1 Winnipeg at the start of the 3rd period then Boston's David Krejci scored 49 seconds in the tie up the game.  Then in less then 6 minutes Winnipeg's Bryan Little had scored twice to end the game 4-2.  Bryan Little wears #18, is from Edmonton Alberta and those 2 goals were his 15th and 16th of the season.  With that win Winnipeg sits 10th in the eastern conference with 62 points, only 2 points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs who are 8th with 64 points!  Go Winnipeg Go!

Two games ended in a shootout Friday night:
The New Jersey Devils beat the Ahaneim Ducks 3-0.  Patrik Elias got the winner for New Jersey.
The Montreal Canadiens beat the Buffalo Sabers 4-3.  Max Pacioretty scored the winner for the Canadiens.
Three games ended in 1 goals differences:
The Carolina Hurricane's Jussi Jokinen scored the game winner in the 3rd period and Carolina beat the San Jose Shraks 3-2.
The Washington Capitals Alex Ovechkin scored the goal to tie the against the Florida Panthers early in the 3rd but it was the other Alex, Alexander Semin who scored the game winner and got Washington the 2 points.  Washington is  now just 1 point out of 8th spot in the east.
Pavel Datsyuk found the back of the net for the Detroit Red Wings with 6 seconds left to spare in the 3rd period to get his team the win.  Datsyuk also assisted Johan Franzen's goal in the 1st. Detroit beat the Nashville Predators 2-1.   With this win Detroit has now won their last 22 games at home!  Unbelievable!
The only game that ended in a 2 goal difference was the 3-1 win for the Colorado Avalanche over the Edmonton Oilers.  With this win Colorado is only 3 points behind 8th place in the west and Edmotnon?  Better luck next year.  Edmonton is 14th in the west with 50 points.

Three games ended Saturday with the winning teams scoring a whooping 6 goals each.  The Vancouver Canucks vs Toronto Maple Leafs game ended 6-2 Vancouver.  Vancouver's top line consisting of Daniel and Henrik Sedin plus Alex Burrows lit up the score board.  Combined these 3 players totaled 10 points last night!  Burrows scored the opening goal and netted his 2nd goal later on.  Daniel Sedin scored 1 goal and assisted in 3 others and Henrik assisted on 4 goals!  As you can see in the picture to your left the line knows how to communicate.  Talking to each other during games and at practice.  Hard work always pays off.  Manny Malhorta, Sami Salo and Kevin Bieksa scored the other 3 goals, while Toronto Captain Dion Phaneuf and Nikolai Kulemin scored for the Leafs.  Alex Burrows 2nd goal of the night you can watch below.
The Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-4.  Matt Cooke (former Canuck) scored 2 goals for Pittsburgh with an unassisted score and one short handed!  Wow!  After this both teams have 71 points but Philly has had more wins this season so is 4th while Pittsburgh is 5th.
The Chicago Balckhawks are on a 2 game win streak.  They beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-1.  Columbus actually scored 1st with a goal by Derick Brassard but after that is was all Chicago.  Six different players scored for Chicago including Captain Jonathan Toews, hot shot Patrick Kane and super handsome Patrick Sharp.  Chicago is 6th in the west with 69 points and Columbus is 15th, last in the west with 40 points.

Three games ended Saturday night in a one goal difference.  Steven Stamkos #91 of the Tampa Bay Lightning scored the game winning goal and his 40th of the season for a Lightning 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals.
The New York Islanders beat the Carolina Hurricane 4-3.  John Tavares scored twice for the Islanders.
The Phoenix Coyotes beat the Dallas Stars 2-1 in overtime.  Radim Vrbata scored the winner for Phoenix.  As of right now Phoenix is heading to the playoffs, they are 7th in the west with 67 points.  Dallas is trailing not far behind with 62 points and 10th.

The St. Louis Blues can thank goal tender Brain Elliott for their 4-0 shutout over the Minnesota Wild last night.  Elliott only faced 13 shots total but got his 6th shutout this season! In total St. Louis has 12 shutouts this year with Jaroslav Halak (one of my personal favorites) getting 6 himself.  To put it in perspective Minnesota's goalie Josh harding faced 34 shot last night and stopped 30. St. Louis is 4th in the west with 79 points and Minnesota is in a fight for a playoff spot with 59 points.

It was a battle of brothers again last night when the Los Angeles Kings took on the Calgary Flames.  These 2 teams head coaches are brothers.  Darryl Sutter coaches the Kings while bro Brent coaches the Flames.  This game had one lone goal by Mike Cammalleri early in the 3rd period to end it 1-0 Calgary.  After this win Calgary and Los Angeles are tied with 65 points.  Calgary has moved into a playoff spot in 8th with more wins then the 9th place Los Angeles Kings.  If this stays and it becomes heated between the teams (they play one more time this year) and it comes down to wins for the teams for a playoff spot, I do not want to be at family dinner with Darryl or Brent!

There are 10 games being played this lovely Sunday night in the NHL
