It all started with a Nashville goal by Legwand, then a Mike Fisher goal. 2-0 Nashville. Then Cutie Cody Hodgson scored and made it 2-1. Then Nashville Captain Shea Weber scored to make it 3-1 to end the 1rd. As Vancouver can do (which is be an amazing hockey team) they came out in the 2nd period and tied it up with help from Daniel Sedin and Aaron Volpatti. The best part of the Volpatti goal is he wasn't even suppose to play last night. Mason Raymond was suppose to be in the line up, for the 1st time since fracturing his back in the playoffs. Paper work with the league is what they say the hold up is. Volpatti got the phone call at about 3:30pm that he was playing and then scored his 1st goal of the season to tie up the game. Then Alex Burrows and one of my favourites on the team Jannik Hansen scored to make it 5-3. The Canucks scored 4 goals in just over 7 minutes. Now do you see what this team is capable of doing? The weird thing is Nashville tied it up with goals from TooToo and Wilson. The 2nd period ended 5-5.
Nashville ended up winning when Mike Fisher scored with just over a minute left in the 3rd period. Final score 6-5. There were not fights in this game and only a few penalties. Also both "back ups were played". Cory Schneider got the start for the game but then after letting in 3 goals on 5 shots on the 1st period it was time for Luongo. Luongo hadn't played since injuring himself against the New York Islanders and then with Schneider's winning streak Luo was back up for a few extra games. Expect Luo to get the start Sunday against the Calgary Flames. Then Nashville pulled their goalie Pekka Rinne shortly into the 2nd period. Anders Lindback was in net for the rest of the game. It is odd you see 4 different goal tenders all in one night. You also don't often see a player climb over the net the avoid running over a goalie? Ryan Kesler did just that last night, when he climbed on top of the net last night to avoid running over Nashville's goalie! How polite. Maybe Milan Lucic should take a polite lesson from Kesler? Check it out in "if you need a visual"
Vancouver plays the Calgary Flames sunday here in Vancouver at 6:00pm.
The Winnipeg Jets beat the Pheonix Coyotes last night in a shut out 1-0. Bryan Little scored the only goal of the game about 7 minutes into the 1st period. The interesting thing about this is the Phoenix Coyotes are the original Winnipeg Jets. The Coyotes were relocated to Phoenix in 1996. Then the Atlanta Thrashers where relocated to Winnipeg in 2011 and with public pressure where called the Jets again. It was the 1st time the old Jets played the new Jets in Winnipeg. I wonder what it was like for Shane Doan? Shane is the Captain for the Coyotes and was one player who was relocated with the team in 1996. It was his 1st game in Winnipeg in 15 years!
The Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricane are still finding a groove after coaching changes earlier in the week. The Capitals lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1. This was the 1st time Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin have met up since Crosby's return. These 2 have a rival that goes back a few years now to when they were drafted. Both got so much attention. Ovechkin was the 1st over all draft pick in 2004, Crosby was the 1st draft pick in 2005. Neither of these players registered a point last night. The Carolina Hurricane also fell short to the New York Rangers losing 5-3. Carolina opened up the scoring but New York always found a way to comeback. The 1st period ended 2-1 Carolina. Then in the 2nd period New York scored 3 goals in less then 5 minutes to make it 4-2. Carolina answered with 1 more goal in the 2nd but New York topped it off with one last goal in the 3rd.
