Last night it was a busy busy Thursday night.  Twelve games!  Here is a quick break down:

Pahlsson #26 being congratulated by teammates
The Vancouver Canukcs took on the Winnipeg Jets last night for the first time since 1996.  The arena was electric with the energy.  Canucks fans stood proud and JETS fans were everywhere.  Some fans where slightly conflicted about what team to cheer for.  One little boy wore a Jets jersey and a Canucks hat.  Regardless, the Jets are back and they were ready to play one of the top teams in the league.
It ended in a 3-2 win for Vancouver.  The 1st period saw no scoring but a ton of shots on net.  Winnipeg took 11 shots on Vancouver netminder Cory Schneider and Vancouver took 20 shots on Winnipeg's Ondrej Pavelec.
The second period saw more action.  Ryan Kesler scored shorthanded less then 2 minutes into the period.  Former Canuck and current JET Kyle Wellwood tied it up and the 2nd period ended in a 1-1 tie.
In the 3rd period Winnipeg took a brief lead 2-1 with a goal by Blake Wheeler only to have Vancouver's All Star D-Man Alex Edler tie it up less then 3 minutes later.  Then in classic form new Canuck Samuel Pahlsson scored his first goal in a Canuck jersey and the game winning goal!  Even though Vancouver won Pavelec was an amazing goaltender stopping 42 of 45 shots!  Schneider made 30 saves on 32 shots.    Evander Kane of Winnipeg had a total of 9 shots on net (Kane is a native Vancouverite, thinking family was in the audience?!)  Ryan Kesler took 6 shots on net and Chris Higgins and Alex Edler each took 7 shots for 20 shots total.  Between the 3 of them they took nearly half the Vancouver shots all night!  After this loss Winnipeg is in 9th place in the east with 72 points while Vancouver is 2nd in the west with 92 points.

The Boston Bruins beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-1.  Jason Pominville of Buffalo scored 1st but then Boston scored 3 in a row.  Boston is 2nd in the east with 83 points and Buffalo has moved into 10 place only 2 points out of a 3 way tie for 8th place.
In the only shutout of the night Philadelphia beat Florida 5-0.  Five different Flyers scored but Jose Theodore still made 30 saves for Florida.  Philly is 5th in the east with 83 points while Florida is leading their division and sits 3rd with 74 points.

Washington Captain Alex Ovechkin scored the OT winner for his team and beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2.  It was OV's 27th goal of the season.  Washington has now snuck into 8th place in the east with 72 points while the Lightning are 11th with 69 points.

Columbus's Mark Letestu celebrating
The Columbus Blue Jackets won their 4th straight game last night.  This time they beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-1.  It started with a goal by Columbus winger Mark Letestu.  Then Anze Kopitar of Los Angeles but before the 1st period ended Columbus had the lead again with a goal by Jack Johnson.  In the beginning of the 2nd period Mark Letestu scored the insurance goal and Los Angeles was not able to catch up.  Columbus is racking up the points but is still 15th and last in the west with 51 points.  Seven points behind 14th place Edmonton.  Los Angeles has slipped to 9th place with 74 points.

Ilya Kovalchuk's Hat Trick
The New Jersey Devils beat the New York Islanders 5-1.  Three of the Devils goals were scored by Ilya Kovalchuk.  It was Kovalchuk's 2nd hat trick in just over 3 weeks!  Kovalchuk scored the first two goals.  The Islanders came back with one from Andrew MacDonald to end the 2nd period 2-1.  In the 3rd it was all New Jersey.  Patrik Elias, Kovalchuk and David Clarkson all scored in just under 9 minutes to end the game 5-1.  New Jersey is 6th in the east with 81 points.  The islanders are 14th in the east with 65 points.

The Ottawa Senators beat the New York Rangers 4-1.  The Rangers scored the 1st goal, the Senators scored the next 4.  The Rangers are still tops in the east with 91 points with a strong 6 point lead on the Pittsburgh Penguins.  The Senators are 7th in the east with 80 points and 8 points ahead of 8th place Washington.
The St. Louis Blues hold to the #1 spot in the NHL with a win over the Anaheim Ducks last night.  Corey Perry scored for Anaheim, David Backes scored goal #1 and #3 for St. Louis and Patrik Berglund scored goal #2 for St. Louis.  The Blues are 1st in the west and league wide with 93 points.  Anaheim is 12th in the west with 68 points and 7 behind 8th place San Jose.
Nashville beat Colorado 4-2.  Predator Martin Erat scored the 4th goal into an empty net with 44 seconds left in the 3rd.  Nashville is 5th in the west with 85 points while Colorado is fighting for the 8th spot in the west with 74 points and in 10th place.
The Dallas Stars beat the San Jose Sharks in a 4-3 shootout victory.  Dallas is now on a 4 game win streak.  The only goal scored in the shootout was by Tomas Vincour who was the 5th Dallas shooter.  9 of 10 players missed!  Dallas is 3rd in the west leading their division with 79 points.  San Jose is struggling and hanging onto 8th place in the west by 1 point.  They have 75 points.
MInnesota and Phoenix also ended in a shootout.  Minnesota scored 2 goals 58 seconds apart in the 1st period to end it 2-0.  A scorless 2nd period was followed by Phoenix scoring 2 goals 65 seconds apart to tie the game 2-2.  Nothing in overtime and Minnesota's Dany Heatley scored the winning shootout goal.  Minnesota is 13th in standings with 68 points and Phoenix is 7th with 76 points.
Montreal beat Edmonton 5-3.  With this win Montreal is still 15th in the east with 62 points and Edmonton is 14th in the west with 58 points.

There are only four games being played tonight:
Florida and Pittsburgh at 4:00pm (Pittsburgh is on a 7 game win streak)
Los Angeles and Detroit at 4:30pm
NY Rangers and Chicago at 5:30pm (Toews won't be playing but is skating again after suffering a concussion back in February)
Winnipeg and Calgary at 6:00pm (This will be an interesting game because both the current Jets and Flames both once were the Atlanta teams.  The Calgary Flames use to be the Atlanta Flames back until 1980 when the team relocated to Calgary.  The Winnipeg Jets returned to Winnipeg after the original franchise moved to Phoenix in 1996 and became the Coyotes.  Now the current Jets are actually the old Atlanta Thrashers.  A game between two old Atlanta teams!)  Enjoy X
