The morning started with the 3rd meeting between the Nashville Predators and the Detroit Red Wings. These 2 teams finished 4th and 5th in the west and we knew it was going to be a showdown. Game 3 lived up the to expectations. First let's talk about the goaltending. One word: unbelievable! Jimmy Howard stopped 19 of 22 shots for Detroit. Howard was the less busy goalie because at the other end of the rink Pekka Rinne stopped 41 of 43 shots! Wow! Nashville took the lead in the 1st period with a goal by Shea Weber. Kevin Klein scored for Nashville early in the 2nd. Nashville lead 2-0. Pavel Datsyuk got the home crowd on their feet with a goal to make it 2-1. Late in the 3rd period Sergei Kostitsyn scored for Nashville. With less then a minute left in the 3rd Henrik Zetterberg scored for Detroit. It wasn't enough and Nashville wins 3-2 and leads the series 2-1. All 3 of these teams meetings have ended in a 3-2 score, with the team that scores first winning. Two things I want to point out about this game, first what not to do. In hockey if you are on the bench rules state you may not interact with players on the ice. Look at this clip of a Nashville player grabbing the jersey of Detroit's Johan Franzen. Franzen retaliates and spears the player but Franzen is then given a slashing penalty. Also Detroit did score a goal that ended up not counting because the puck crossed the goal line 0.10 to late!
Philly goalie Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 31 of 35 shots
PENS #1 goalie Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 22 of 28 shots in the 1st and 2nd periods.
PENS back up Brent Johnson stopped 4 of 6 shots in the 3rd period.
Philly took 69 minutes worth of penalties, 32 minutes worth in the 1st, only 2 minutes in the 2nd and 35 minutes in the 3rd! The PENS took 40 minutes worth in the 1st, 6 minutes in the 2nd and 43 minutes in the 3rd! Claude Giroux and Sidney Crosby went at it at one point! Two of the best players in the league dropping gloves.
