It was a goal a period for the Canucks. Surprisingly it was 3 Canucks who are all incredible players who have not been lightning it up lately so to speak. Manny Malhorta opened up the scoring late into the 1st. It was Malhorta's 1st goal of the season. Alex Burrows made it a 2-0 lead 1/2 way through the 2nd. Then, the one and only Ryan Kesler unassisted put a goal in on an empty net with 30 seconds left in the 3rd. For the 1st time since his upper body injury Luongo sat as back up on the bench instead of having a Chicago Wolves call up. Schneider got the start, his 3rd straight this season. Schneider made 24 great saves, the best of the night might have been 1/2 way through the 3rd period. Check out that save in "if you need a visual"
The Buffalo Sabers met the Boston Bruins for the 1st time since Lucic bulldozed down goalie Ryan Miller. Lets just say gloves where dropped on more then one occasion. Buffalo was leading the game until Boston tied it up on a power play early in the 3rd. The game went to a shoot out and Boston won 4-3 final. Given the circumstance of the game and the tension between teams there were a lot of penalties taken. 10 for Boston and 11 for Buffalo. Gloves were dropped for the 1st time 1:23 into the 1st period with Gaustad of Buffalo having a few choice words with Lucic of Boston before a face off. Both ended up getting a 5 minute major. Next came Boston Captain Chara and Buffalo's Regehr engaging in a kerfuffle just past the 1/2 way mark in the 1st. In the end Ryan Miller's concussion isn't any better, but that's hockey.
Sidney Crosby was in the line up for the 2nd time this season. No points for the Kid last night but a few penalties. 3 to be exact. Although he did play goalie for a minute, overall it wasn't an eventful night. Sid still showed his talent but in the end the St.Louis Blues won 3-2 in overtime.
Best Story of the Night! The only one rule when dressing your team as a coach is you need 2 goalies dressed. One to play and one as a back up. Other then that dress who ever you please. While last night Minnesota was left stratching their heads. Their main goalie Niklas Backstrom was out of the game leaving back up goalie Josh Harding as the starter. That means that a call up from the farm team would be the back up. Matt Hackett was called up from Houston but there was a chance that he was going arrive after the puck dropped. What was a coach to do? You call your childhood buddy who plays rec hockey with a men's team and sometimes practices with the Wild. Paul Deutsch was signed to a 1 day professional try out contract. The guy is 51 years old! Deutsch never actaully had to sit on the bench. He did take part in the warm up but the call up goalie arrived just in time. What a story!
