As of last night this is who would be going to the playoffs.  San Jose would be playing Vancouver and ironically these 2 teams met up in the conference finals last year and Vancouver won in 5 games.  The two most entertaining series would have to be between the Nashville Predators and the Detroit Red Wings in the west and the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers in the east.  All 4 teams are incredibly strong and it would be a fight to the death.  Both series could easily go to game 7.  The (Y)s at the end of a team mean that that team have clinched (or won) their division meaning they automatically get a playoff spot.  There are 6 divisions remember.  Three in the west and three in the east.  Refer back to episode 7 of Hockey Talk with Courtney if you need.  Lane and I run over who plays in what division. The (X)s mean a team has clinched a playoff spot but not their division.  Last night was a relaxing night in the NHL with only 2 games being played.  One in the east and one in the west.

#1 goalie Jonathan Quick!
The Los Angeles Kings shut the door on the Edmonton Oilers 2-0.  Edmonton is out of the playoff run with only 73 points in 80 games but Los Angeles is in that bitter 4 team rotation for the 8th spot.  It is almost safe to say that Colorado and Calgary are out but Los Angeles is still fighting with Dallas, Phoenix and San Jose, all in the Pacific Division every night.  As of last night Los Angeles leads the Pacific Division with 93 points but has not clinched it.  The other 3 teams in the division are hot on their heels, it is still anyone's division title.  Los Angeles wants to make playoffs and Edmonton's skaters are wanting jobs next year so everyone is working hard.  It was a scoreless game for the 1st and 2nd period.  34 seconds into the 3rd period Slava Voynov scored his 8th goal of the season.  Voynov has played 52 games this year and is on defense so 8 goals is pretty good.  It was 1-0.  Then with a few minutes left in the period Dwight King scored his 5th goal of the year.  King who plays left wing has only played 25 games this year so 5 goals is looking good.  The night though belonged to Los Angeles goalie Jonathan Quick who recorded his league league leading 10th shutout of the year!

The other game played last night was between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Washington Capitals.  The Tampa Bay Lightning are out of a playoff spot sitting 10th in the east with 81 points but Washington on the other hand is in a fight for 8th place against the Buffalo Sabres.  With the Capitals losing last night that opens up the door slightly for the Buffalo Sabres.  Again it was a fight with not a single goal scored in the 1st period.  Then with nearly 13 minutes gone in the 2nd period Capitals Alexander Semin scored.  Tampa came back to scored to goals 25 seconds apart by Teddy Purcell and Victor Hedman.  Tampa fought hard in the 3rd period but at the 16:43 mark Washington tied it up with a goal by Jason Chimera.  Enter Steven Stamkos.  Stamkos in his usual fashion this season started scoring goals.  His 57th goal of the season came at 18:57 in the 3rd but why stop there?  Stamkos scored his 58th goal of the season at 19:59!  Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins might be winning the points race overall but Stamkos has scored 10 more goals then him!  Stamkos Stamkos Stamkos!  Check out the Stamkos goals below!
