On January 11th every single Canuck was at practice! Andrew Alberts and Alex Edler were so eager to skate with there team they got on the ice before the zamboni was done cleaning it!

Jordan Schroeder, Jason Garrison, Zack Kassian and Aaron Volpatti were also eager beavers Friday morning.

Clean Ice + Hockey Players = FUN!
Three days!  Count them, 3 days till the puck drops and the NHL season begins!  Thirteen games will take place Saturday.  The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers meet up for the first time since a wild and crazy playoff series last year.  Three games are being aired by CBC and it is safe to say "Hockey Night in Canada" is back.  The Ottawa Senators vs Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs vs Montreal Canadiens and the Vancouver Canucks vs Anaheim Ducks will all be part of the great Canadian show.

I have so much to talk about but before I do here is the Friday practice the Vancouver Canucks held at UBC before hitting the ice at Rogers Arena.   For all you Vancouver fans, here you go.

What is on the agenda to talk about next?  The Detroit Red Wings have a new Captain!  Henrik Zetterberg!  Congrats Henrik.  The Dallas Stars have yet to sign power forward Jamie Benn to a contract.  Benn is actually in Victoria, British Columbia getting ice time with the WHL's Victoria Royals.  Plus what is going on with Lubomir Visnovsky?  He is the only player who has not returned to his NHL post lockout.  Enjoy everyone and HOCKEY IS BACK!

Roberto Luongo made his entrance Friday. Lou looked good. Smiling and ready to work.

Henrik Sedin setting up the net before practice. That is what makes a good Captain on any team. Leadership!
Picture
Once the nets are set up Henrik knocks the pucks off the net. Practice is on!
Picture
Jannik Hansen and Cory Schneider set up the net on the other side of the rink and share a laugh while doing it!
Picture
Kevin Connauton and Jordan Schroeder flips pucks to teammates to start practice.
Picture
Roberto Loungo and Cory Schneider having a laugh and chat while starting practice.
Picture
For the last time Coach Manny Malhotra ran drills and kept practice moving.

What a fun day at daycare! These children came to watch practice and they were lucky enough to take a puck home! Dale Weise is never shy with fans and flipped a puck over boards for the children!

Taped hockey socks, skates, stick and pucks on the ice. A few of the many sights during practice.

Ballard man hugged Loungo at practice!
Keith Ballard had me in stitches again Friday at practice.  After watching him "high five" trainers and talk their ears off Thursday plus make his teammates laugh the entire practice Ballard was one for the books Friday as well.

I was standing behind Lou toward the end of practice and who skates up to give Lou and gives one of the biggest man hugs I have ever seen?  Keith Ballard.  But no, Ballard wasn't done there.  After hugging Lou, Ballard skated right over to Chris Higgins and began poking him with his stick.  Higgins was quick to react and a sword fight of sorts began between the two.  Don't believe me?  Scroll down, I have photo evidence.

With all this Keith Ballard love I thought to myself "Who is Keith Ballard?"  I have no idea, so I did some research.

1) Ballard is from Baudette, Minnesota

2) Ballard plays defence and was drafted 11th overall in the 2002 draft by the Buffalo Sabres

3) Ballard wears the number 4, stands 5'11", weighs 208 pounds and has blue eyes.

4) Ballard has played for the Phoenix Coyotes, Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks

5) Ballard is one of five Vancouver Canucks who came from Florida.  Others include Jason Garrison, David Booth, Chris Higgins and Roberto Loungo.  I think it is safe to say Mike Gillis has the Florida Panthers on speed dial!

6) Ballard is a husband and a father.  His daughter is almost 3.

7) and finally Ballard has a sense of comedic timing I never would have guessed.  If you missed it I have uploaded the video of Ballard helping out around the office while skating in Minnesota during the lockout!

Picture
Then Ballard after showing such love for Lou skated right over to Chris Higgins and began poking him with his stick. Boys will be boys and it ended up turning into a sword fight.
Picture
See I wasn't lying. I think Higgins won the sword fight.
Picture
Coach Manny! Everyone on the team listened and Manny never missed a beat as coach!
Picture
During the final drill everyone was having fun! NHL hockey is back! Enjoy everyone!

It's very hard to play, compare to normal hokey, as how the players manage their balance.
I never played but love to see them playing.

I love ice hockey and I have been a fan of the sport from ever since I can remember. I still remember the day when my father gave me my first ticket to a hockey game. Those pictures were beautiful.
