Yesterday was a slow day in the NHL world.  Only 2 games were played.  Tonight has a much bigger lineup with 11 games.  Yesterday's recap is:
Picture
The Ottawa Senators beat the New York Islanders 6-0!  It started early in the 1st period and didn't stop.  Thanks to these two men pictured (Jason Spezza on the left and Erik Karlsson on the right).  Karlsson scored the 1st goal, Spezza the 2nd and Karlsson the 3rd to end the 1st period.  The 4th goal was scored by Chris Phillips.  In the 3rd period Brian Lee scored the 5th goal assisted by Karlsson.  Spezza scored the final goal, again assisted by Karlsson.  That makes 27 goals for Spezza this season and 12 goals but 45 assists for Karlsson this season!  Wow!  Ottawa is in 7th place in the eastern standings and is 6 points above 8th place Toronto.

In the second shutout of the day the Carolina Hurricane beat the Washington Capitals 5-0.  It was 3-0 at the end of the first period with goals by Justin Faulk, Anthony Stewart assisted by Eric Staal and the 3rd goal by Andreas Nodi.  In the 2nd period Eric Staal, captain of the team and man to your left scored the 4th goal shorthanded.  Staal wasn't done yet.  The icing on the cake was the 5th goal for Carolina again scored by Staal in the 3rd.  It was a 3 point night for Staal.  Staal has scored 18 goal this season and assisted 31 others.  With this wild win Carolina is still at the bottom in the east in 15th place with 57 points.
