There were 9 games played in the NHL last night.  Four ended in shutouts and only 2 ended in some form of overtime.

The biggest game of the night standings wise was between the Vancouver Canucks and the St. Louis Blues.  The teams went into this game with records almost identical.  Vancouver had 88 points, St. Louis 87.  If St. Louis won in regulation then they would be first in the league.  If St. Louis won in OT the teams would be tied.  If Vancouver won in regulation they would have a 3 point lead in the western conference.

In the 1st and 2nd period of this game not a goal was scored.  Both teams were trying but it was clear both teams wanted to win .  Luongo made 22 saves in the first 40 minutes and St. Louis goalie Brain Elliott made 18.  Then with 4:17 gone in the 3rd period, 44:17 into a scoreless game, Alex Burrows scored his 23rd goal of the year assisted by Dan Hamhuis and Kevin Bieksa.  It was 1-0 Vancouver with just over 15 minutes remaining.  WIth just over one minute left in the 3rd period St. Louis pulled their goalie for the extra attacker and Canuck Chris Higgins was able to scored his 12th goal of the year into an empty net assisted by Alex Burrows and Kevin Bieksa.  It was 2-0 Vancouver with 39 seconds left.  Final score 2-0 Vancovuer.  With this win Vancouver remains 1st in the league and breaks the 90 point mark.  St. Louis is in 4th place overall with 87 points.  Vancouver's next game is Saturday vs the Buffalo Sabres.  Welcome back Cody!  Check out the Chris Higgins empty netter below!

The Boston Bruins beat the New Jersey Devils 4-3 in OT.    David Krejci #46 the man to your left is the player Boston can thank for the win.  Krejci scored the opening goal 1:13 into the 1st period.  Tyler Seguin scored for Boston and it was 2-0 end of the 1st.  Zach Parise, Patrik Elias and David Clarkson all scored for New Jersey in the 2nd and it ended 3-2.  Then With 5:30 gone in the 3rd period Krejci scored his 2nd of the night to tie the game and force OT.  With 2 minutes left in OT Krejci snuck one off the post and past Devil goalie Martin Brodeur and it was a 4-3 victory for Boston and Krejci's 2nd career hat trick.  After this win Boston is 1st in their Northeast Division and 2nd in the east with 79 points but are 6th overall in standings.  New Jersey is 7th in the east with 75 points and 5 points ahead of 8th place Winnipeg.  Watch David Krejci's hat trick night below!

The Montreal Canadiens beat the Minnesota Wild 5-4 in a shootout.  It was 4-1 Montreal with 11 minutes left in the 3rd period and Minnesota came back to score 3 goals in 3 minutes and 43 seconds.  The 4th Minnesota goal was scored with only 10 seconds left!  Montreal's David Desharnais scored the only goal in the shootout.  Montreal is 15th place in the east with 60 points and Minnesota is 12th in the west with 66 points.
The Philadelphia Flyers beat the New York Islanders 6-3.  In every period Philly scored twice and the Islanders scored once.  The Islanders are 14th in the east with 61 points and Philly is 5th with 77 points.
The New York Rangers beat the Carolina Hurricane 3-2.  The interesting part of this game would be the Staal brothers.  Eric Staal, who is the Captain of the Hurricane hit his brother Alternate Captain Mark Staal who plays for the Rangers on February 22nd 2011.  Mark ended up with a concussion and missed the first 36 games this season with post concussion like symptoms.  This was the 1st time the brothers were meeting up since the hit.  Rangers ended up winning even after Captain Eric Staal scored a goal for the Hurricane.  What sweet revenge!  New York is still #1 in the east with 88 points and Carolina is 13th with 61 points.
The Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Colorado Avalanche 2-0.  Colorado is 10th in the west with 70 points and only 1 point behind 8th place Dallas.  Columbus with their 19 win in 64 games this year is still 15th in the west with 45 points.
The Calgary Flames beat the Phoenix Coyotes 4-2.  It was 3-0 at the end of the 1st with Calgary's heavy hitters Mike Cammalleri, Curtis Glencross and Olli Jokinen all scoring.  Phoenix scored twice in the second but Calgary Captain Jarome Iginla scored the insurance goal on an empty net with 47 seconds left in the 3rd.  Phoenix is 3rd in the west leading their division with 75 points and Calgary is fighting for that 8th place currently 11th with 69 points.
The Buffalo Sabres shut the door on the San Jose Sharks 1-0.  Drew Stafford scored the lone goal at the end of the 1st period.  Sabre's goalie Ryan Miller made 39 saves!  WOW!  This is Miller's 5th shutout of the year and second in a row!!  San Jose is 7th in the west with 73 points and Buffalo is 10th in the east with 66 points!

In perhaps the wildest game of the night the Winnipeg Jets shut the door on the Florida Panthers big time with a 7-0 final!  Man to your left Jet Evander Kane scored the 1st goal for Winnipeg followed by Jim Slater to end the 1st period 2-0.  A scoreless 2nd period and it was all about the JETS in the 3rd period.  Former Canuck Kyle Wellwood scored followed by Bryan Little followed by Nik Antropov followed by Evander Kane again followed by Blake Wheeler.  It was 7-0!  Kane picked up 4 points with 2 goals and 2 assists.  Bryan Little and Kyle Wellwood both had a goal and an assist and Mark Stuart picked up 2 asssits!  With this win Winnipeg is back in 8th place in the east and Florida is 3rd with top spot in the South East Division with 72 points.  Go Winnipeg Go!  Check out the 7 Winnipeg goals below!
