There were 9 games played in the NHL last night and they all ended in a one goal difference except Edmonton's 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers and Dallas's win over the Chicago Blackhawks.  Here is a quick breakdown.

The most intense game in the league last night and possibly in the top 3 this year so far was between the Vancouver Canucks and the Detroit Red Wings. The Wings were going into the game the top team in the west with 84 points and the Canucks weren't far behind with 82 points.  Detroit was on a 23 game win streak when playing at home and Vancouver is the best team in the league as far as wins on the road were concerned.  Luongo and Howard were between the pipes.  Detroit was playing without Pavel Datsyuk and Vancouver's David Booth was playing his first game ever in his 6 year NHL career in Detroit in front of his family and friends.  Booth's family has had season tickets to the Detroit Red Wings for 28 years and Booth was in the building cheering on his favourite childhood team when Detroit won the Stanley Cup on 1997.  It only took 343 career games for Booth to finally play at home.  It started off intense as both teams had  big stakes involved.  In the 1st period alone Vancouver took 17 shots on Detroit netminder Jimmy Howard but it was Detroit who scored.  A goal by Darren Helm 11 minutes in gave Detroit a 1-0 nothing lead end of the 1st.  In the 2nd period Daniel Sedin scored his 27th goal of the year and Vancouver was on the board.  End of the 2nd 1-1.  In the 3rd period Detroit's Kyle Quincey(in his 1st game since being traded)scored, Detroit lead again 2-1.  With nearly 14 minutes gone in the 3rd period Vancouver's Rookie Cutie Cody Hodgson scored his 16 goal of the season to make it 2-2.  Vancouver only had their tiebreaking goal squashed 20 seconds later when Justin Abdelkader scored to make it 3-2.  But somehow in the dying seconds of the 3rd Ryan Kesler found Henrik Sedin and Henrik found his brother Daniel and Daniel found the back of the net!  It was 3-3!  Vancouver forced OT and Detroit hadn't won their 24th game, yet.  A scoeless OT and onto the shootout.
The shootout went like this:
Detorit's Jiri Hudler-DENIED
Vancouver's David Booth-DENIED
Detroit's Henrik Zetterberg-DENIED
Vancouver's Alex Edler-DENIED
Detroit's Todd Bertuzzi-DENIED
Vancouver's Alex Burrows-SCORES!
Detroit's 23 game home winning streak was over.  Booth got to play in front of his family at home finally, and Luongo played an amazing shootout!  With this win Vancouver is still one point behind Detroit.  Detroit is #1 with 85 points while Vancouver is #2 with 84 points.  Check out Burrows goal below and watch Lou celebrate his shootout shutout!

The other games ended this way:
San Jose beat Toronto 2-1.  Patrick Marleau scored both goals for San Jose in the 2nd period.  Jake Gardiner scored the lone goal for Toronto.  With the loss Toronto is now 9th place in the east with 65 points, while San Jose still leads their division with 71 points and 3rd in the west.
The Anaheim Ducks beat the Carolina Hurricane 3-2.  It was a tied 2-2 and went into a S/O.  Anaheim's Saku Koivu scored the only S/O goal.  Anaheim is 13th in the west with 62 points and Carolina is 14th in the east with 58 points.
The Minnesota Wild beat the Florida Panther 3-2 in a S/O as well.  Matt Cullen  and Erik Christensen scored for the Wild in the S/O.  Florida is in 8th in the east with 66 points and Minnesota is 12th in the west with 63 points.
The St. Louis Blues beat the Nashville Predators 3-2 as in a S/O.  T.J Oshie and Andy Mcdonald scored the S/O goals.  St. Louis has 81 points for 4th in the west and Nashville is not far behind with 77 points and 5th place.

The Winnipeg Jets beat the Tampa Bay Lightning last night in a 4-3 final.  At the end of the 2nd period Winnipeg had a 4 goal lead.  Andrew Ladd, Team Captain had scored twice and notched one assist.  Former Canuck Tanner Glass scored a goal for the Jets.  Dustin Byfuglien scored the 4th goal and the game winner but also grabbed an assist.  With 11 minutes gone in the 3rd period it was looking good for Winnipeg when Tampa's Steven Stamkos scored and it was 4-1.  With less then a minute to go Tampa's Teddy Purcell assisted by Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis scored to make it 4-2.  45 seconds after that Martin St. Louis scored assisted by Teddy Purcell and Steven Stamkos.  With this win Winnipeg is 1st in their South East Division giving them a playoff spot (for now) with 67 points and one point ahead of 2nd in the South East Division the Florida Panthers.  Tampa is 11th overall in the east with 60 points.  Steven Stamkos with his 3 point night is 1st in the league for goal scoring with 43 and now tied with Evgeni Malkin for points over all with 73!  WOW!

The Chicago Blackhawks are back on a losing streak after Dallas beat then 3-1.  Marian Hossa scored the 1st goal of the night, got Chicago on the board and in the 3rd period Dallas went on a scoring spree scoring 3 goals in less then 7 minutes.  With this win Dallas is in 8th place in the west with 66 points.  Chicago is in 6th with 73.
Another game to end in a S/O was the Phoenix Coyotes win 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames.  Calgary had a 2-0 lead at the end of the 1st period.  Phoenix tied it up 2-2 at the end of the 2nd.  Ray Whitney scored for Phoenix in the 3rd and Olli Jokinen tied it up to end the 3rd period 3-3.  No scoring in OT and Ray Whitney scored the goal in the S/O!  Phoenix hangs on to the 7th place playoff spot with 71 points but Calgary is 9th with 66 points.  Tied with Dallas but Dallas has 3 more wins then Calgary so therefore gets the 8th place spot.
Edmonton's Devan Dubnyk stopped all 35 shots he faced last night for his 1st shutout this season.  Edmonton beat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-0. Taylor Hall scored his 22nd goal of the year and Jordan Eberle scored his 27th goal for the 2-0 win!  Philly is still 5th in the east with 73 points and Edmonton is 14th in the west with 54 points.
